Girl, 3, who was ‘always smiling’ found dead in flat as man and woman arrested

Tributes have been paid to Kaylee-Jayde Priest, three, who was found dead at a flat in Kinghurst, west Midlands – a crowdfunding page has been set up to ‘give her the send of she deserves’

Kaylee-Jayde Priest, described as “happy and beautiful”, was found dead at a flat in Kinghurst on August 9.

Two people have been arrested – a 21-year-old woman on suspicion of wilful neglect of a child, and a man, also 21, held on suspicion of wilful ill-treatment of a child.

Both were released on bail while the investigation by West Midlands Police continues, Birmingham Live reports.

Kaylee-Jayde’s step-dad Dan Gregory, 22, has told how he was devastated by her tragic death.

He was pictured with the youngster on his shoulders last July and has now set up a GoFundMe page aimed at raising funds towards her memorial.

Dan has been devastated by the little girl’s death

“Kaylee was always smiling and was such a beautiful innocent girl who has lost her life at such a young age,” said Dan, from Chelmsley Wood.

“I was in her life when she was under the age of one. I helped bring her up when I was with her mum for two years. Kaylee did play a big part in my life.

“I was devastated when I found out she had died. I still don’t know what happened.”

He added: “The fund can either go towards the costs of her funeral or be used to create a memorial.

“It’s nice people have already contributed to the fund even some who didn’t know her who have been affected by her death as she was just three-years-old.

“It would be great to get a memorial bench or a personalised headstone with a pink teddy bed.”

Writing on the crowdfunding page, Dan said: “It would be amazing if you could help support us give this young girl the best send off she deserves. Any donation big or small. It all helps.

“It would be much appreciated if you can help. We can do this if we pull together. RIP Kaylee-Jayde Preist. Fly high princess, we love and miss you so much.”

Dan said he helped bring a touching shrine full of flowers, balloons and pictures together with other family members outside the block of flats where her body was discovered last month.

An inquest was opened and adjourned in relation to Kaylee’s death at Birmingham Coroner’s Court on August 19.
