Fatherhood in the 21st century can be financially and emotionally exhausting because many children today like “Oliver Twist” often want more and more. Becoming a dad is a life-changing experience for most men, while some feel anxious and frightened about the prospects, others naturally step into the role embracing the highs and the lows.
However, the larger society has extremely high expectations of fathers irrespective of their struggles and are often blamed for the failures of their children especially when they have been absent from their lives. Good dads are special men with simple personalities which help them to build a peaceful and purposeful life around their children.
Any parent would know how stressful life can be when children share in it. But nevertheless, it can also become boring and lonely without them. Often, dads are tasked with the responsibility of meeting the huge financial burden of the family and this can sometimes test their characters when things are not working in their favour.
Patient is one of the best characters of a good dad and a trait that fosters a great father-child relationship which creates the opportunity to share their feelings too.
It is only when you are patient that you can create the time to listen and the ability your child needs to solve his/her own problems.
Every child yearns to be happy and indulging in fun activities with dad creates the special moments many can only dream about. Playing helps children develop their creative and imaginative skill which are crucial to their growth and development. When you play with your children, you are more likely to enjoy good health and improved wellbeing because playing is a great way to relieve stress and improve brain function. Playful dads are also able to bond better with their children and create lasting memories for them to treasure even in their adult years.
As many families’ lives swiftly took a new dimension due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many fathers who were once uninvolved suddenly become more involved giving their children reasons to rebuild their confidence in them again. Some dads also quickly stepped into their new role as “stay-at-home dads” either sharing the tasks with their spouses or simply looking after the children alone while their spouse went to work on the frontline.
The truth is that even though children want more and more, most of them simply want the gift of time with you, the strong man, who can help them navigate this rapid and unpredictable world. It only takes a good dad with a positive mindset to become that kind of dad.
Every good dad must have a sense of purpose especially in this ever-changing world. A dad with a sense of purpose can plan and see deeper beyond the hierarchy of the needs of his children by ensuring their future is well prioritised and secure. This trait also enables you to stay focussed and optimistic about the future which shapes the way you think and responds to daily situations in your life. A purpose-filled dad is a happy man who has a huge desire to create a world that is worth living and one that his children can strive towards happiness too.
