As we celebrate Mothers’ Day in some part of the world, it is pertinent to know who is a mother and the role of a mother.
Some women think until you give birth to a child, you can’t be a mother. Some often wait until they get married before the assume the roles of a mother. A few who don’t even know their responsibilities as mothers.
This is article is put up to enlighten and remind my female audience the roles of a mother and who a mother is.
The Meaning of Being a Mother
The meaning of being a mother is virtually endless. A mother is a protector, disciplinarian and friend. A mother is a selfless, loving human who must sacrifice many of their wants and needs for the wants and needs of their children. A mother works hard to make sure her child is equipped with the knowledge, skills and abilities to make it as a competent human being. Being a mother is perhaps the hardest, most rewarding job a woman will ever experience.
The Roles of a Mother
As mentioned in the meaning of being a mother above, the roles of a mother are listed hereby:
- Safety and Security.
- Teacher and Disciplinarian.
- Coordinator of Responsibilities.
- Creative Recorder.
- Love and Sacrifice
Who is fit to be a mother?
Any woman who carries out the responsibilities of a mother as listed above, is a mother. She doesn’t necessarily need to give birth to a child before she could be a mother. The day a woman starts administering the roles of a mother to a child, she is a mother.
While you are yet giving birth to a child of own, start being a mother by taking up the responsibilities of a mother on a child around you. Don’t be hostile and careless to other children simply because you didn’t carry them in your womb for 9 months and push them out through your vagina. This will help you to become a better mother for your own kids.
